Mikuláš Hrdlička
Cinematographer
Mikuláš Hrdlička holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Cinematography at FAMU, the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts. He is among the most distinctive voices of the emerging generation of Directors of Photography in the Czech Republic. His work is marked by a keen sensitivity to atmosphere and a precise, concept-driven approach to color and visual color dramaturgy, which form a core element of his cinematic language.
His talent has been internationally recognized, most notably at the UK Music Video Awards (UKMVA), where he received the award for Best Cinematography (Newcomer) for a music video Son Lux “Flickers”. His short film Otcové (Fathers) achieved significant festival and professional recognition: it was selected for the official program of Camerimage festival and, in 2026, received the Best Short Film award from the Czech Society of Cinematographers. He also won the award for Best Cinematography at FAMUFEST 2025 for the film Frostbitten.
Mikulas seamlessly transitions between commercial work, music videos, and narrative and documentary filmmaking. In his commercial and music video projects, he often draws inspiration from filmmaking, applying storytelling techniques, lighting strategies, and visual dramaturgy developed in film to create a richer and more expressive visual language.
